young volunteer ma hua leaves behind a good job in beijing and comes to teach in a remote village in a tibetan region. in mingyong village, ma is soon impressed by the pure, unsophisticated and pious lifestyle of the tibetans. yet he is shocked by the poor schooling conditions. he decides to help more children back to school. ma doesn’t allow any dropout in his students, even if he has to take the last coin from his pocket. in his spare time, he gives english classes to local people, willing to help the tibetans improve their living standard. unfortunately, in a road accident, ma hua falls into lancang valley...
