at the moment, realism is still the center of gravity for domestic tv dramas, and its proportion continues to expand. according to the data released by the state administration of radio, film and television in january this year, the total number of dramas completed and granted with distribution licenses for the whole year of 2023 totaled 156, of which 124 dramas with realistic themes were produced, accounting for about 79.49% of the total number of dramas. as more and more film and television organizations began to favor the development and production of realist dramas, the number of realist dramas has surged, and at the same time, the genres, styles, and kernels of the dramas have gradually moved towards a richer, more diversified, and deeper path. urban emotional dramas, as an important branch of the realism theme, are also the same. in the past two years, the creative core of urban emotional dramas has been close to the pulse of the times, showing the emotional hot spots in social life, focusing on the relationship between “society and individuals”, thus constantly evoking public resonance.

at present, film directors are becoming normalized in directing and supervising tv dramas, and more and more famous filmmakers such as feng xiaogang, zhang dalei, wang jiawei, cao baoping, and zhang yimou have started to use long dramas to tell stories that are difficult to be carried by the length of the movie. as these film creators and independent artists continue to enter the game, in the domestic drama industry injected fresh blood at the same time, but also doomed to domestic drama creation will produce more new ways to play.
